Éké is a sculptural bronze and blue topaz ring by multidisciplinary artist Zora Djenohan, created for Teko Gallery’s BIRTHSTONES exhibition.

The design references Éké, the python and sacred messenger of Ala, the earth deity in Igbo tradition associated with life, death, fertility, and the earth. Two fluid serpentine forms curl around a luminous blue topaz, creating a ring that feels both ancient and distinctly contemporary.

The looping forms evoke cycles of transformation, renewal, and continuity - a reminder that a beginning is nestled within every ending. The brilliant blue of the topaz creates a striking focal point against the warmth of the sculptural bronze.

Zora’s work sits at the crossroads of adornment, ritual, cultural continuity, and ancestral heirloom. Drawing from West African aesthetic traditions and their evolution across the diaspora, they approach jewelry as functional sculpture - objects that can be worn while carrying meaning, memory, and story.

Created in celebration of topaz, a traditional birthstone of November.
